Monthly Pet Tips

February is National Pet Dental Health Month, which highlights the importance of oral hygiene for dogs and cats. Regular veterinary checkups and at-home care are essential to prevent pain, infection, and severe damage.

Dental disease causes pain, infections, and can lead to tooth loss. Additionally, bacteria from oral infections can spread to the heart, liver, and kidneys, affecting overall health. Common signs of pet dental issues include persistent bad breath, yellow or brown teeth, red/swollen/bleeding gums, difficulty eating, and dropping food.

Professional veterinary dental exams and cleanings are crucial for removing plaque and tartar.

Regular at-home maintenance can also help. Daily brushing with pet-safe toothpaste is the gold standard. Dental chews can help reduce plaque and tartar.

Speak with your veterinarian for specific details on how to best keep your pet’s and what particular products they recommend.
